Halal Subway! Thursday, October 25th, 2007 by President Sahib - AKA Mohammed Yusuf (Hafiz at minus 1)

SUBWAY has worked diligently with its suppliers to introduce a full range of certified Halal meats. We can now offer our Muslim customers a full range of Subs that are fresh, made-to-order and just the way our customers like them.

All the meat we use has been prepared according to the rules of Halal and has been certified by the Islamic Foundation of Ireland.

We know there is a very strong demand for SUBWAY® stores that provide Halal meats and are we are very excited by this development. In the US, there are Halal stores already open that are doing great business and are very popular. The critical point about our stores is that they are very closely tied into the local communities in which they operate – and it is important that they reflect what each community needs.

The SUBWAY® chain, one of the fastest growing retailers in the UK and Ireland, puts its success down to the increasing popularity of the submarine sandwich as a fresh food offering and its rapid rate of expansion, as the chain fast approaches 1000 stores in the UK and Ireland.

Across the UK and Ireland, the SUBWAY® chain plans to open a further 1,000+ outlets over the next four years, creating a further 10,000 jobs with an investment of over £100 million. Worldwide, the SUBWAY® chain has created over an estimated 280,000 full and part-time jobs and has a turnover in excess of £5 billion.

“Mars, Snickers and Twix chocolate bars
Masterfoods’ brands are household names
Some of the UK’s best-selling chocolate bars, such as Mars and Twix, will no longer be suitable for vegetarians.

Also affecting brands such as Snickers and Maltesers, owner Masterfoods said it had started to use animal product rennet to make
its chocolate products.”

“If the customer is an extremely strict vegetarian, then we are sorry the products are no longer suitable, but a less strict vegetarian should enjoy our chocolate,” said Paul Goalby, corporate affairs manager for Masterfoods.”

Sorry guys - but that just ruled out a tonne of chocolate for us - still, There’s Cadbury’s, and disgusting Hershey’s….

“The Vegetarian Society said it was “extremely disappointed”.”
